What is the pH value?

  • The pH value indicates whether the water is alkaline or acidic
  • It is the basis of a good water quality in the whirlpool.
  • The measuring scale ranges from 1 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline)
  • At 7 the pH value is neutral
  • The pH value is logarithmically structured. A pH value of 6 is 10 times more acidic than a pH value of 7.0.

To compare, here are some pH values of liquids that we encounter very frequently in everyday life:

  • Lemon juice: 2,4
  • Coke: 2,0 to 3,0
  • Beer: 4,5 to 5,0
  • Human skin: 5,5
  • Mineral water: 6,0
  • Milk: 6,5
  • Blood: 7,4
  • Soap: 9,0 bis 10,0
  • Bleaching agent: 12,5
  • Sodium hydroxide: 13,5 to 14

The ideal pH value for the whirlpool water

A pH value of 5.5 would be ideal for human skin. In the whirlpool, a permanent pH value below 6.0 can lead to corrosion. For people it can come to eye irritations, because our tear liquid has a pH-value between 7 and 7.5. A permanent pH-value above 7.8 can lead to cloudy water and to skin pinching because the skin has a pH-value of 5.5. A pH-value above 8.0 can lead to lime precipitation. This lime can cloud the water and settle in the pipes.

Therefore we recommend a pH value between 6.8 and maximum 7.8 for Lotus Clean system care.
